Arcelormittal Mold Conversion Structural

Description of Project:

Arcelor Mittal is in the process of converting the molds on the continuous caster CCM #1 located at the 3SP.  Once complete the caster will be able to cast 9 1/4” thick slabs versus the 10” thick slabs it presently casts.

Scope of Work:

HOH inspected the structural steel and cladding of CCM #1 both outside and inside the spray chamber.  Structural steel and cladding that needed to be replaced was documents and designed so the it could be replaced in sections in 14 hours mini outages.  Existing cladding was replaced with stainless steel cladding.

Value to Client:

The modified caster will produce a slab that has more applications than the present 10” think slab and open additional markets for sale.  HOH by preparing the design and details to be installed in 14 hour mini outages enables the caster to maximize production and limit down time.
